Questions about CBD

1What is CBD (Cannabidiol)?
Cannabidiol is the focus of many current medical studies. It is commonly abbreviated to CBD, and is one of the many active compounds present in industrial hemp. These active compounds are referred to as cannabinoids. CBD is the most dominant cannabinoid in hemp, constituting up to 40% of hemp extract. Unlike THC, it is non-psychoactive.
2Is CBD legal?
Yes. You might have heard that the only way to use these products is to live in a state that has legalized medical marijuana, but this simply isn't true! Beyond Botanicals' CBD is extracted from federally legal hemp plants, so we can ship to all 50 states. You do not require a license or doctor's note.

If any state legislation changes this standing, we will do our best to provide immediate updates.
3Will CBD get me high?
NO! CBD is an active cannabinoid derived from hemp, but it is not psychoactive, meaning it will not inhibit you in any way, shape, or form!
4Will CBD make me fail a drug test?
Federally legal hemp extract has had the THC eliminated from it. Although we make no claims as to the certainty of drug test results, it is highly unlikely that CBD would make you fail traditional drug tests which only search for THC.
5What is CBD used for?
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not allow us to make medical claims regarding the benefits of our products beyond recommending them for general well-being.

If you are suffering from a disease or illness, or believe you are suffering from a disease or illness, it is best to consult your healthcare provider for advice.
6What's the difference between hemp seed oil and CBD extract?
Good question! Less reputable companies sell hemp seed oil claiming it is CBD oil, so it's important to know the difference.

Hemp seed oil is made by pressing raw hemp seeds and collecting the liquid oil that is expelled. It is a good supplement and cooking additive. It does not have concentrated cannabinoids or terpenes.

CBD extract is made by supercritical carbon dioxide extraction of the hemp plant. This concentrates the active cannabinoids and terpenes to very high percentages, resulting in the CBD oil we add to our products.
7What's the difference between hemp and marijuana?
When people think of marijuana, they think of the classic Cannabis Sativa plant. What many don't know is that marijuana can be of the indica and ruderalis varieties as well. Comparatively, hemp isonly the cannabis sativa plant.

While they are the same plant, there are distinct genetic differences between the two. Marijuana plants are generally bred to have very high amounts of THC at the expense of other cannabinoids, including CBD. Hemp is the inverse, containing large amounts of CBD and little to no THC. This means that hemp is an ideal plant for those seeking cannabis benefits without the psychoactive experience.

Marijuana plants are usually slender and bushy with large amounts of flowers, whereas hemp plants are taller and thinner, with pronounced stalks and little to no flowers. Industrial hemp has a myriad of uses including as a component of clothing, paper, rope, plastics, oils, and foods.

Legally, the two plants are separately defined by the Agricultural Appropriations Act of 2014, which establishes "Industrial Hemp" as a Cannabis sativa plant with a THC concentration below 0.3 percent by weight.
8How much CBD should I take?
Everybody responds differently to CBD, so the best approach is to try it out and adjust to find out what works best for you as an individual.

Our recommended serving size is 10mg. Various people have found amounts as small as 5mg and as high as 40mg to be ideal.

As always, consult your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Questions about Beyond Botanicals

1How much CBD is in Beyond Botanicals products?
We utilize hemp extracts in our products that are up to 80% CBD by weight. To accommodate as many people as possible, we are constantly developing new product lines with a range of potencies. Each individual product will state clearly how much CBD it contains.
2How are Beyond Botanicals products made?
All of our products begin with fully legal American industrial hemp. The hemp undergoes supercritical carbon dioxide extraction to achieve high concentrations of CBD. That is to say, no solvents or high temperatures are used in processing our hemp, guaranteeing the highest purity and effectiveness. Although the other ingredients and processes vary from product to product, we employ the same levels of scrutiny in testing and guaranteeing quality with each of those that we do with our hemp.
3What is carbon dioxide extraction?
Traditional extraction processes use some combination of heat, pressure, and solvent to remove a desired compound from its environment. Unfortunately, these methods often leave residue or degrade the quality and amount of the desired compound. Carbon Dioxide extraction is highly efficient and does not add extra costs. By pressurizing an extraction chamber with carbon dioxide, the pressure required to extract desired compounds is achieved without any of the heat associated with traditional pressing methods. Because it dissipates immediately after opening the extraction chamber, this method also guarantees no residue left in the finished product.
4Are Beyond Botanicals products safe?
Of course! Safety and Satisfaction are our biggest priorities. Read more about our quality assurance.
5How does Beyond Botanicals perform product testing?
We mandate that all of our suppliers provide validated third party testing on their materials. In addition, we regularly audit our own products and have third party labs test those as well to ensure safety, potency, and purity. You can learn more about this process by reading about our Quality Assurance program.
6Where does Beyond Botanicals hemp and CBD come from?
Our hemp is sustainably farmed to USDA Organic standards in Kentucky. The CBD extraction process is performed immediately after harvesting. The extracted CBD is then packaged into final product in our Connecticut facility.
